Andy Mossack lives the high life as he reviews the Apartments by the Sloane Club.
Anyone who’s ever wandered past those millionaires’ mansions in Belgravia and wondered what it would be like to live the life can now try it out for a few days courtesy of the Apartments by the Sloane Club.
This private members’ establishment has taken over four red-brick buildings off Sloane Square, where they make ritzy studios and apartments available as an alternative to a classic five-star London hotelstay. Of course part of what you pay for at a five-star hotel is the facilities, and the reason these apartments cost somewhat less is that the restaurant, bar and lounges are off-limit to non-members.
But the art deco-tstyle accommodation is ultra-luxe, and the Poggenpohl kitchen a boon for families travelling with children or the observant who might prefer not to eat out.
And there is room service – the Club will deliver dinner in a hamper if ordered early in the day, as well as a bountiful deli-style breakfast(advise any dietary restrictions on arrival). Even those who don’t order breakfast will find a welcome basket containing mueslis, teas and coffees, and an espresso machine in the kitchen.
One important hotel service that is on offer is a 24-hour concierge who can make restaurant bookings, magic up theatre tickets and organise a car.
And then there’s the shopping, with local merchants including Daylesford Organic, Allegra Hicks and L’Artisan du Chocolat offering discounts. A partnership with Fortnums goes one step further, bringing the store’s milliners, jewellery specialists or perfume experts to the apartment, along with a butler to mix cocktails and create a suitable ambience for browsing.
Other services include a pukka Norland nanny to take care of the kids. It all adds up to a delicious taste of Chelsea life which could be just the thing forLondoners wanting to spoil themselves on a special anniversary as well as aspirational out-of-towners.
