Following Significant Investment, Marcliffe unveils redesigned luxury bedrooms.
Marcliffe hotel, Aberdeen’s only five-star property, has unveiled its newly renovated collection of Suites and Superior rooms, marking the latest phase of investment in the privately owned property.
The £1.1 million refurbishment programme has transformed thirteen rooms in total, with each space thoughtfully redesigned to celebrate the hotel’s heritage and distinctive character.
All named after iconic local castles, the rooms share Marcliffe’s signature couthie theme, which can be found throughout, inspired by the calming tones of the Scottish landscape. Each room is layered with soft greens, warm blues and subtle touches of a bespoke Balmoral tartan, created exclusively by the hotel’s owners. Carefully curated furnishings, ambient lighting and individual design details ensure every stay feels personal, restful and refined.
Responding to growing demand from families, the hotel has introduced two new Superior Family Rooms, tapping into a wider demographic of guests. Children can hunker down in two bespoke bunk or cabin beds, each with their own built-in television on the wall. Mini bathrobes and slippers have been designed with them in mind, whilst parents can relax in stylish, spacious surroundings, including a king-sized bed and lounge area.

Managing Director, Jordan Charles said; “Marcliffe is going through a multi-year transitional investment programme which began last year and is already delivering tangible results, with an ambitious growth strategy to follow. This latest renovation marks an exciting chapter for the hotel. The Balmoral Suite and Crathes and Fraser Superior rooms launched at the tail end of last year and generated instant demand, achieving a very strong average daily rate. With six Superior rooms, two Superior Family rooms and two more Suites now complete, we very much look forward to a busy season ahead.”
In 2025, Marcliffe was awarded the prestigious AA five-star rating, the primary national benchmark for hotel and restaurant excellence in the UK.
The hotel also acquired Woodbank, a neighbouring 14-acre estate, formerly owned by Shell. A multi-million-pound investment has been earmarked to support Marcliffe’s long-term expansion plans, including additional bedrooms and luxury leisure facilities.
Earlier this year, the hotel also launched Skylark Brasserie, following a £5.5 million investment which included the installation of a state-of-the-art kitchen.
