At a recent reception at the Australian High Commission during HRC London (Hotel, Restaurant and Catering Show) there was much chatter about the growing rise in Australia’s food and drink exports to the UK as the Australia–United Kingdom Free Trade Agreement nears its third year.

Across foodservice and retail, UK buyers are increasingly focused on premium, traceable and responsibly produced food and drink, alongside a growing appetite for diverse, global flavours.  Australia’s reputation for high-quality produce and strong production standards positions it well within these trends while the numbers back it up.

Austrade in partnership with Aussie Beef & Lamb showcased the increasing presence of Australian food, wine and spirits in the UK by bringing together producers, chefs and industry leaders to celebrate quality, provenance and innovation.

Richard Sanders, Aussie Beef & Lamb’s UK/EU Country Manager said: “As the Australia–UK Free Trade Agreement enters its third year, the evening offered a timely opportunity to explore the evolving trade relationship between two countries with a long and historic connection in agriculture, food and hospitality.

“Attendees heard first-hand how the new trade landscape is shaping opportunities in the UK market and connect with the distributors, chefs and retail operators driving demand across the sector.

“With strong historic ties between the two industries and new momentum under the FTA, the evening promises valuable conversations, fresh insights and a room full of the people shaping the future of the UK meat and hospitality trade.”

During the reception at the Australia High Commission, guests experienced an all-Australian menu curated by chef Mike Reid, highlighting the breadth of the country’s produce, including premium red meat, seafood and wines.

The evening provided an opportunity to discover Australian food and beverage across multiple categories, experience distinctive flavours from land and sea,  connect with producers, exporters and industry leaders and gain insight into how the A-UK Free Trade Agreement is shaping future trade opportunities.

While still a modest contributor overall, Australia is establishing a steady and increasingly visible presence in the UK across food and drink categories. From red meat and seafood to wine and spirits, Australian producers are responding to demand for quality, transparency and provenance.
