Judith Baker reviews the stunning Argentario Golf and Wellness resort in the unspoilt region of Maremma, Tuscany

Argentario Golf and Wellness resort lies in a beautiful valley near Porto Ercole in Tuscany and is one of the top Tuscan golfing destinations. Maremma stretches between the beaches of the Mediterranean and the rolling hills of Tuscany, off the beaten path between Florence and Rome.

Next year the Argentario Golf and Wellness resort will host the Italian Open on the DP World Tour.

Set in 77 hectares of lush Mediterranean countryside surrounded by a nature reserve, the hotel has a chic, contemporary style which exudes luxury.  The striking monochrome decor with animal artworks imagined by interior designer Andrea Fogli reflects the hotel owner Augusto Orsini’s love for nature and sustainability.

With its entry into the exclusive Autograph Collection Hotels by Marriott International, the property is undergoing some restyling to add some softer, organic touches to its distinctive modern style. These include plants, earthy palettes and cosy furnishings that infuse the colours, history and nature of Maremma Tuscany into the Resort’s elegant minimalist design.

There are 73 rooms and seven suites each having views over the 18 hole golf course, Monte Argentario’s landscape or the Orbetello Lagoon. Individually decorated the luxurious rooms have all the latest technology and a pared back, sophisticated feel. The resort also has a range of villas available for purchase or rental, nestled in the nearby hills.

The resort boasts the only golf course in Italy with PGA National Italy status as well as a huge Espace Wellness Centre.   The golf course lies in a protected area and has the ‘Agri Cert’ for its bio-compatibility. The lagoon and the sea create a microclimate that allows the sport to be enjoyed 360 days a year.
