An imposing new hotel in an historic building in New York City’s energetic Financial District is a luxurious addition to the city, finds Judith Baker
The Wall Street Hotel is found on the corner of Wall Street between Water and Pearl in New York City. This is one of the most famous and vibrant parts of Manhattan, where over the years bankers and traders have been joined by architects, artisans and designers to create a bustling quarter steeped in history and style. The Wall Street Hotel, opened earlier this year, occupies The Tontine Building which housed the original New York Stock Exchange.
Today, the property combines this sense of New York tradition, wealth, and elegance with a contemporary ambience. The lobby and lounge area are filled with striking artworks, black and white photographs, palms and flowers. Service is attentive but discreet and the 180 rooms and suites are spacious and luxurious with high-quality fixtures, heated bathroom flooring, luxurious neutral décor, Frette bed linens, a custom entertainment system and Bang & Olufson Bluetooth speakers.
The décor is neutral and calming, and rooms have views over Wall Street, and some look out to the New York Harbour.
The Hotel’s La Marchande restaurant serves breakfast and dinner in a contemporary space on the corner of Wall Street and Water. Its brasserie-style dining room is presided over by Michelin chef John Fraser. Dishes include French classics and there is an extensive French wine list of rare bottles. Breakfast was a relaxed affair with favourites including eggs benedict on the menu and interesting people-watching to be enjoyed looking out over Wall Street.
The all-day lobby lounge is a high-ceilinged, sumptuously decorated room perfect for sipping cocktails in pretty tub chairs or chatting over coffee on the sofas.
There is a 24-hour fitness centre, Curated Concierge team and complimentary Velosophy bike rental. Meetings, events and weddings are catered for with the 2,100 square-foot ballroom on the top floor of the hotel.
You can find The Wall Street Hotel at 88 Wall Street, between Water & Pearl, New York City. It is a short walk from Wall Street subway and easily accessible from JFK airport. Nearby are attractions including the New York Stock Exchange, Battery Park, and The National September 11th memorial.
