Andy Mossack reviews the new wireless Logitech Pop Icon Combo and finds it’s a colourful perfect match.
Logitech has long been a trusted provider of reliable and innovative peripherals, and my review of the Logitech MX Keys Mini and the Logitech MX Master 3S wireless mouse are perfect examples.
With the Logitech Pop Icon Combo the company has switched its focus to a younger audience demographic and perhaps even gamers.
The Keyboard
The Logitech Pop Icon Combo features a Bluetooth desktop keyboard, and a mouse set up to work synchronically right out of the box. It’s a duo that’s styled to impress with a choice of four matching funky colour combinations (graphite with green buttons, rose or lilac with off-white buttons, and off-white with orange buttons) and compact and customisable features. But there is no backlighting function.
The keyboard is not unlike a laptop set up, with low profile comfortable soundless keys and a layout similar to the MX Keys Mini. The remappable keys are easy to spot, they’re on the right side of the keyboard in dayglo green (in my case) and across the nine top function keys 4 -12.
All the programming heavy lifting is taken care of using the excellent and much lauded Logi Options Plus software which, with its latest version, makes use of ChatGTP and various AI options. But many of the short cuts already have really useful functions: F5 is a search button, F7 an emoji menu and F8 takes a screen shot. The four coloured mappable right hand side buttons are defaulted to home, page up, page down and end, replacing the standard number pad, while the easy-switch buttons allow you to device-hop across three different devices (computers, tablets or phones) seamlessly.
The Mouse
The Logitech® POP Icon Combo mouse may lack the silken skills of the MX Master 3S ergonomic design, and some might say a tad small in the palm, but there is still enough new tech in this one to impressive perhaps even the most die-hard cynic. The new SmartWheel shifts from high precision to speed scroll mode with a flick of your finger, while the Silent Touch Technology ensures you don’t get distracted or distract others with incessant clicking. 1000 – 4000 DPI (adjustable) is more than enough sensitivity when you consider the small size of the mouse.
Bluetooth Connectivity
Regular users of Logitech wireless devices will be familiar with LogiBolt technology, a dongle receiver which fits into your USB to ensure you get a more secure and a 2.4ghz connection over Bluetooth. The Logitech Pop Icon Combo doesn’t come prepacked with a LogiBolt, although it is compatible if you already have one, or you can order it as an add on. Frankly I don’t think it is necessary as the POP Icon Keys and POP Mouse connect perfectly well using standard Bluetooth, and the supplied AAA batteries have a remarkably long life – 36 months for the POP Icon Keys and 24 months for the POP Mouse.
Final thoughts
The Logitech Pop Icon Combo is an excellent value for money offer. The choice of four funky colours will appeal to a young audience offering them a stylish combo to boast about. The long battery life is exceptional, and the keyboard and mouse’s versatility in its key mapping and silent running will make it ideal for gaming and limited workplace use.
