Rosalie Bay Eco Resort and Spa is a delightful traditional style resort in Dominica with impressive eco-credentials.

Describing itself as more of a retreat than a resort, it is tranquil and relaxing with morning yoga sessions and an emphasis on wellness.  It relies heavily on solar power complemented by wind energy from Dominica’s wind turbine, and uses  green practices such as composting and local sourcing.

In a delightful natural setting where the river meets the ocean, it is within a 28-acre nature reserve, the property is home to numerous species of birds, plants and wildlife.   There is a beach nearby and although the sea is not suitable for swimming here, it is a relaxing spot. There is a small pool with sun loungers and the resort is ideal for families with adjoining rooms available and plenty of space to explore and enjoy, Peaceful and serene, it is also a popular venue for honeymoons with intimate dining options and privacy.

The hotel hosts a programme to protect endangered Leatherback, Green and Hawksbill turtles that nest on its beach from March to October. Guests are offered the opportunity to witness nesting and hatching and join local patrols.

All 22 hotel rooms are housed in pretty colonial style buildings dotted around the property. Rooms are spacious with a home from home feel. Furnishings are traditional with cosy armchairs, huge beds, writing desk and a terrace with views over the gardens. The bathrooms have a tiled walk in rainfall shower and plenty of space.

There is a coffee maker, TV and air conditioning in all rooms.  Riverside suites have a living room with sofa, king size or two Queen size beds, bathroom with shower and oversized bathtub, vaulted ceilings, and back porch with swing just a few feet from the water’s edge. Food & Drink

The airy Caribbean style pool side Leatherback restaurant is open all day for drinks and serves breakfast, lunch and dinner. Enjoy local dishes with a twist and fabulous cocktails.  A Children’s menu is available and vegetarians are well catered for.

Enjoy a healthy start breakfast which can include Saltfish Accra or a breakfast Quesadilla. Take aways are also on offer if you are off for a day’s activities or an early flight.

Room service is available in your suite or for a more intimate experience in a private gazebo. There are facilities for large parties and celebrations in the Zamaan restaurant in an open-air setting or al fresco in the covered patio overlooking the Rosalie River and the Atlantic Ocean.

The resort also offers holistic mindful fitness activities including nature walks, a detox labyrinth walk and morning power walk and meditation.

There is a fully equipped gym.

The resort offers tours and activities with professional guides including challenging hikes to the Emerald Pool and Boeri Lake and more accessible trips to the market at Roseau or the Authentic Kalinago experience with traditional dancing, craft making and bread baking.

A short walk from the resort is Rosalie Bay Distillery, a craft rum distillery. The non-profit distillery supports the conservation of sea turtles, restoration of coral reefs and protection of whales. Take a tour to see how they produce single cane juice rum, all made from sugar cane from local farms.
