There’s a lot of positive noise around when you mention Skechers footwear, and my previous reviews of Skechers golf and walking shoes were triumphant. With Slip-Ins technology, the genius of hands-free on and off cannot be denied, but does it work when it comes to sport and golf in particular?

Comfort and performance are obviously critical in sport after all, you have enough trouble concentrating on your game technique without having to worry about aching feet too. But I wanted to know if Slip-Ins still managed to keep gripping your feet whilst playing. So, I fairway tested two of the marquee Skechers GO GOLF® Slip-Ins range to see if they helped or hindered my game.

This premium golf shoe comes packed with the foot comfort technology you have come to expect with Skechers shoes. After all, they’re not called ‘the comfort technology company’ for nothing.

There is the Heel Pillow which envelops around your heel keeping it in place – potentially no rubbing – their patented sports specific Resamax insole designed to bring a cushioned feel to your feet while walking, Eco Flight added cushioning that promises to use at least 10% recycled materials and of course the Arch Fit insole for secure support. This is a fully waterproof shoe, guaranteed for a year, with synthetic uppers and Goodyear rubber outsole technology for stability.

But the star of this particular show is the hands-free Slip-Ins tech that has revolutionised Skechers products. It’s essentially a built-in shoehorn within the hardened heel counter which allows your feet to slip in to the shoe without folding over.

My feet did just that, sliding in easily and standing strong even though I put some pressure on the heel area. Once they were in, they stayed snug and frankly it felt like I was walking in butter. And they remained that way throughout my round which was very welcome towards the end when I got a little tired but grateful my feet weren’t aching too.

The Gripflex spikeless outsole uses a combination of multi-directional cleats and lugs which gripped the grass throughout my swing and didn’t particularly clog up with muddy residue at the end of the round. And the outer marques screamed trend and contemporary style. Personally, I don’t mind golf shoes looking a little jazzy. There’s nothing wrong being a little shout and loud on the golf course providing you talk the talk as well as walking the walk!

Skechers GO GOLF Prestige SL  Slip-ins

Perhaps a little more subdued than its stablemate GO GOLF Blade GF above, this is nevertheless another premium golf shoe tailored towards the more mature user perhaps. The timeless classic brogue look is the first indicator, together with luxury full grain leather uppers. Although my black pair were plain with no frills, the white version comes with a classy tan line around the base, while a navy/white version parades a navy back half and white front. So fashion-wise you could have a version to suit all of your moods.

These GO GOLF Prestige SL shoes are 100 % waterproof and contain all of the super comfort tech as the GO GOLF Blade GF above. The only difference I could see was these Prestige SL shoes had tie up laces even though they were Slip-Ins. Perhaps it’s just a design look as the Slip-Ins worked perfectly putting them on and taking them off without adjusting the laces.

Unlike the the GO GOLF Blade GF these have a spikeless outsole with a whole maze of multidirectional lugs for maximum traction courtesy of Goodyear rubber performance.

The practical test of walking the fairways proved to be a triumph. I’m delighted to say the GO GOLF Prestige SL shoes were every bit as comfy as the GO GOLF Blade GFs. The arch support was a dream as was that same buttery feel when walking.

Both of these premium shoes carry hefty price tags, but when all is said and done, if you’re looking for performance golf shoes that are a dream to wear and have hands free Slip Ins tech too, they are well worth it.

The only thing I need to do is to get my golf game as sharp as the shoes.
